Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) |
|
Photo (c) Rita Colwell Bubo spent most of his life as a wildlife ambassador, educating the public about local wildlife and the dangers of adding toxins to our environments. He acted as a foster dad for orphaned Great Horned owls, helping over 45 young owls return to the wild. A more detailed story about this remarkable bird can be found under the August 2008 update under "How you Can Help" page on the website. Check out the Memorial Slideshow below, some of the pictures are large so download can be slow. (music by Grant Hoyt "Dreams come True")

Many people knew him as Socrates, he was always Bubo to his close friends. Our dear friend passed away on Saturday, August 2nd at 17 years of age and truly is missed. Bubo came in to Wildlife Rescue of Palo Alto in April 1991 as a fledgling who had fallen out of his nest due to seizures from secondary poisoning. His two siblings weren't as lucky as both of them had died from ingesting the poisoned rodent their parents had brought them.
